FAQ

I heard that some DIY power supply modifications simply increase the size of the heatsink in the power supply, thereby increasing the power output?

Power supply is a typical bottleneck effect. The power of the power supply is determined by the power capacity of the transformer, the parameters of various power tubes, and the heat dissipation conditions, and is determined by the lowest one among them. If the transformer and the power tube have some margin, increasing the heat sink will increase the output power to some extent. However, if the bottleneck is not in heat dissipation, increasing the heat sink will be futile, but it will help reduce noise.

What are the principles of high-voltage DC power supplies for communication and their advantages over AC UPS?

High-voltage direct current (HVDC) power supplies for communication are a new type of DC uninterruptible power supply system. The term "high-voltage" here refers to voltages higher than the traditional -48V DC communication power supply. In December 2009, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the communication standard technical report "Technical Requirements for 240V DC Power Supply System for Communication".

Nowadays, power supplies easily reach 350W. Is such high power really necessary?

Currently, the power supply market is indeed developing towards higher power output. Although under normal working conditions, the power consumption of the entire machine is only about 250W (higher configuration). However, because the instantaneous power consumption is very large when the PC is started, we need to choose a power supply with a power greater than the power consumption of the accessories to ensure this instantaneous need. In addition, the parameters of a power supply under full load will be lower than the output parameters under 60% or 70%. Of course, letting a power supply always work under its full load will also have a great impact on its lifespan. Therefore, in order for the entire machine to work more stably, it is still necessary to choose a high-power power supply.
